Backyard Mini-Farm Step-by-step Series - Workshop #3

Join us for the 3rd workshop of our exclusive backyard mini-farm series - a complete step-by-step journey creating a new Grow Biointensive urban mini-farm in Kimberley BC.

During this workshop, participants will have the opportunity to get their hands and feet dirty practicing double-digging, flatting and transplanting - so please bring digging footwear and gloves if you like!

Workshop #3 will revisit previous skill building subjects, and offer more conversational topics with time for questions. Specific topics include:

  • A more in-depth look into the 8 sustainability principles of Grow Biointensive:

    • Deep soil preparation - the how and the why

    • Composting - the importance of recycling nutrients and growing organic matter

    • Intensive planting - how to increase yield 4x and eliminate the need to weed

    • Carbon farming - sustainability and how we feed the soil

    • Calorie farming - how to effectively feed ourselves

    • Companion planting - 3 ways to work with nature

    • Open-pollinated seeds - the importance of genetic diversity

    • and Biodiversity - how all previous principles tie together

  • Watering technique demonstration

  • Double digging demonstration with skill building opportunity

  • Seed starting/flatting with skill building opportunity

  • Transplanting demonstration with skill building opportunity

All ages and experience levels welcome!

Workshops are by donation.
