Red Fife is a Canadian Heirloom with exceptional yield and baking quality/flavor. Named after David Fife, brought to Canada from Scotland in 1842. Red Fife has been a very consistent variety for us, producing very large hardy plants and an excellent yield. Plant height, tillering and grain heads grow very similar to Rouge de Bordeaux, but with a more creamy color.
In 2019 we observed several plants produce a christmas tree shaped grain head. We are planning to grow a select plot in 2022 to see if this trait carries forward and what effect it might have on yield.
