Terminillo, Wheat
Terminillo, Wheat
Terminillo wheat is the result of breeding efforts by famous Prof. Nazareno Strampelli at the Royal Wheat Growing Research Center in Italy during the early 1900’s. A cross of Reiti wheat and Vanni rye, with further back crossing to wheat produced this highly productive and hardy variety; not a true tricale but sharing many traits.
Additional Info:
Wheat/Rye Cross developed in early 1900’s
Winter/Hard Red
55” Tall/30 tillers
6” seed heads/large grain
Very cold tolerant
Excellent baking
High Grow Biointensive yield (2021)
Long awns
Terminillo has provided very consistently large plants, with very large seed heads compared to every other wheat(save Tibetan which is quickly catching up). Growing 55” tall with upwards of 25-30 tillers, Terminillo is a high yielder in grain and biomass! A bit slower to mature, we’ll be focusing on selecting for plants with fast and uniform grain maturity in the coming years.
