Bere, Barley

CA$5.00

A hulled awned 6 row barley dating back to the 8th century, with likely Norse heritage.

High yielding of grain and biomass, grown primarily for beverages like beer and whiskey and animal feed, but can be grown for bread if de-hulling is practical.

Additional Info:

-Hulled

-3.25” grain heads

-47” tall

-High yielding

-Preferred for beer and whiskey production

-Very cold tolerant

Bere has been a great producer in our climate, with above average yields of grain and biomass reaching 47” tall! While not of high nutritional interest due to being fully hulled, we have selected over 2 years for the most vigorous plants and plan to experiment with malted barley for beer production.
