Ethiopian, Barley

CA$6.50
sold out

A hulless awned 2 row barley from Ethiopia, which is recognized as one of the twelve Vavilovian Centers of Diversity of crops in the world.

Additional Info:

-3.5” grain heads

-41” tall

-Low yield and tillering

-Very cold tolerant

Ethiopian barley, while not as high yielding as it’s 6 row counterparts, has significant value in genetic preservation. After 2 years of selection we haven’t seen Ethiopian barley adapt as quickly to our micro-climate as varieties like Karan-16; with tillering and grain head size remaining the same. Even so, like most barley we grow, it has grown higher than average in height reaching a respectable 41” tall.
