Oilseed, Sunflower

CA$5.00
sold out

This sunflower produces a shorter mostly single flower stalk full of smaller black seeds that are high in oil content.

Additional Info:

  • Averages 6’ tall

  • Fast to mature

  • Extremely frost tolerant

  • High oil content

  • Small seeds (not practical to shell for eating)

This particular Oilseed cultivar comes from Northern California and is especially fast and cold tolerant. They mature quickly, producing a single flower that are medium in size.

This sunflower is one of two varieties that have survived our cold short climate and produced viable seed (Hopi Black Dye being the other, which is a cross of Oilseed). These plants will survive a cold night down to -8c (although they will show leaf damage at that extreme) and easily shake off frosts around 0c.

Great oil producing sunflower, pick up a pack and a hand oil press to start growing your own cooking oil at home!
