Gopal, Barley

CA$5.00

A hulless awned 2 row barley from India.

Gopal produces gorgeous and highly nutritious dark purple grain high in anthocyanin.

Additional Info:

-Dark purple grain

-2.5” grain heads

-29” tall

-Above average nutrient content

-short bushy plants with very high number of tillers

-High yield for a 2 row barley

-Very cold tolerant

We’ve been selecting Gopal for tillering for the last 4 years, and although yields are typically lower for 2 row barley, our Gopal has exceeded well over 100 tillers with overall yields now comparable to 6 row varieties.

Gopal is free threshing but does require a bit more effort compared to 6 row types.

Our experiments with fall planting barley have shown that Gopal has the potential to survive winter where snow pack coverage is less than 4 months.
