Tibetan, Wheat

CA$5.00

Tibetan cultivation of wheat dates back as early as 3,500 years go! This Tibetan wheat varietal is very well adapted to cold and high altitudes.

Additional Info:

  • Ancient landrace

  • Winter/Hard Red

  • 55” Tall/100 tillers

  • 5” grain heads

  • Very cold tolerant

  • Excellent baking

  • High Grow Biointensive yield (2021)

  • Valuable for acclimatization

  • Awnless

We have seen a lot of genetic diversity in this wheat, with a wide variety in number of tillers, time to maturity (even individual tillers on a single plant) and height.

With this genetic diversity comes a great opportunity to select seed from plants that thrive in your micro-climate.

Our Tibetan wheat is fall planted, and has been above average in height and yield, growing an impressive 55” tall! 2nd generation standout plants were absolutely massive, with a record setting 100 tillers on a single plant! Tibetan has also produce some massive seed heads, rivalling Terminillo which is a triticale cross!

We will continue to select for tillering and consistent time to maturity. We are very excited about this variety, and can’t wait to see what our 3rd generation plants produce.

Although tall for a wheat, we did not experience lodging with this variety.
